Somatic Experiencing (SE)

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body-based trauma therapy that helps the nervous system complete the survival responses (fight, flight, freeze) that were interrupted at the time of overwhelm. SE works by tracking bodily sensations rather than narrating the event in detail.

SE was developed by Dr. Peter Levine. It is widely used for shock trauma, medical trauma, and developmental trauma. Treatment length varies; many clients work somatically alongside other modalities. SE practitioners hold a separate three-year SEP credential.
