Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a non-pathologizing therapy model that views the psyche as composed of distinct 'parts' (such as protectors, exiles, and managers) led by a core Self. Healing happens when the Self builds compassionate relationships with the parts, allowing them to release the burdens they carry.

IFS was developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz in the 1980s and is recognized as evidence-based by SAMHSA's National Registry. It is widely used for trauma, eating disorders, and complex relational patterns. IFS works well alongside EMDR, somatic therapies, and traditional CBT.
