Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a short-term couples therapy grounded in attachment theory. EFT helps partners identify the negative cycle that drives their conflict and rebuild emotional bonds through structured 'change events'. The model is also used for individuals and families.

Developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, EFT typically runs 8 to 20 sessions. Roughly 70-75% of couples move from distress to recovery, and 90% show significant improvement, according to outcome studies summarized by ICEEFT. EFT is the most-researched humanistic couples therapy.
